Meet Bernard McDermott, DDS

Dr. Bernie McDermott, a native Washingtonian, was in private dental practice in Washington, DC for thirty-one years. He did both his undergraduate studies and received his dental degree from Georgetown University in 1963 and 1967, respectively.

He then went on to serve three years in the U. S. Army Dental Corps, including one year in Vietnam.

He is a past President of the D. C. Dental Society, was the Chair of an American Dental Association Council, and served as Chair of the 1993 ADA Annual Meeting in San Francisco (50,000 attendees).

He was a former Trustee of the ADA Board of Trustees as well as serving as an Examiner and Chief Examiner for the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners (NERB).

His significant awards include the U.S. Army Commendation Medal, Georgetown University’s Distinguished Service Award, the Friendship-Tenleytown Citizen’s Association’s Community Service Award, and the D.C. Dental Society’s Highest Award For Achievement.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Dentistry and the International College of Dentistry.

Dr. McDermott has great experience with associateships, partnerships, and the buying and selling of dental practices and enjoys working with Dr. William P. Karpa of Karpa Dental Brokerage.

He is retired from dentistry and is married with four adult children. Bernie currently serves on the Board of The Field School in Washington, D.C., and on the District of Columbia Board of Dental Examiners.
